Prioksko-Terrasny Nature Reserve is a protected natural area located in the Moscow region, near the city of Serpukhov.
The reserve was created in 1945 with the aim of restoring and preserving the population of bison, which are the largest mammals in Europe and are endangered.
In the 1930s, bison almost disappeared from the territory of Russia, and in the post-war years a program for their restoration was initiated. A special program for breeding bison was organized in the Prioksko-Terrasny Reserve, and as a result, a stable population area was created in the reserve.
One of the features of the reserve is the successful restoration of the bison population. Here, programs are carried out to breed and reintroduce these mammals into their natural habitat. The bison, which are under protection and in semi-free conditions, become a symbol of the reserve and attract the attention of ordinary visitors and researchers.
Here, conditions have been created for the bison that are as close to natural as possible; they can move freely around the territory, which allows us to observe their behavior in the natural environment. Excursions are available to visitors to the reserve, which include the opportunity to observe these majestic animals.
