Yakutsk is the capital of the republic. In winter, the city is an amazing combination of harsh nature and city life. The city, located in the very heart of Yakutia, becomes a real winter miracle when the temperature drops to extremely low values.

Even for locals, the cold weather can seem like a challenge. But thanks to traditional clothing adapted to the harsh climate of the region, Yakuts endure the winter quite well. The main element of winter clothing is fur hats, as well as fur coats and sheepskin coats, which are made from the fur of various animals, such as deer, sable and fox. These products provide excellent thermal insulation and protection from the cold. Traditional footwear is felt boots or fur boots (unty), which protect feet well from the cold.

The symbol of winter in Yakutia is Chyskhaan. He looks like an old man with a long beard. He is dressed in a blue fur coat decorated with a pattern with sever ornaments and a hat with high horns, symbolizing the embodiment of the Bull of Winter.

And of course, how can we do without riding on a Yakut sled? Even low temperatures are not a reason to refuse to try this traditional entertainment and method of transportation, which is deeply rooted in the culture and way of life of the Yakut people. Sleds made of wood and leather are used both for transportation and for recreation.
